Individualized Sensory Training
A Multisensory Approach
The Individualized Sensory Program
SM (ISP) combines elements of three well-documented sensory therapies: vestibular stimulation, phototherapy and auditory training. Years of research supports these interventions as an effective therapeutic approach for a variety of medical issues.
Simultaneous use of these three modalities greatly enhances the benefit of the interventions. Individuals with Sensory Processing Disorders (SPD) have varying degrees of difficulty when it comes to adapting to their environment. Completing simple tasks and social interaction can be challenging and in some cases impossible to manage. The body's sensory systems (vestibular, visual and auditory) must function in an integrated manner in order to process the environment accurately. This combined approach activates the reticular activating system located in the brain and synchronizes the sensory systems resulting in training old pathways and creating new pathways that improve reception and processing of information. The ability to process the sensory environment will improve ability to learn and react to the environment appropriately. Therapists will find the individual progresses more quickly and at a higher level of function.
Changes can begin right away and can continue for up to nine months following the treatment. For most clients treatment one time is sufficient. For more severe clients treatment may be repeated after a 9 month waiting period.
Our clients have reported improved sleeping patterns, reduced or elimination of depression, reduced anger, improved math skills, better grades, better driving due to expanded peripheral vision, improved behavior, improved memory, better balance, increased physical stamina, improved speech, improved social skills, children understanding social signals to just name a few.
We are very excited about the many positive results that the ISP
SM has yielded in our clients. We look forward to exploring how we can help you or those you love.
The therapy takes place in two phases over 30 consecutive days. Vestibular
training, auditory training, and phototherapy are used simultaneously in two
30 minute sessions for children and a single 1 hour session for adults over
13 days during phase one (day 7 of phase one is done at home with a portable
light). Phase two is done at home for the next 17 days and consists of two
20 minute sessions with the portable therapy light as it was done on day 7.
